Now that the gluttonous Thanksgiving Feast is finally exhausted, and our britches are beginning to loosen, it’s time to talk about FOOD once again!
Originally dubbed Harvest Hall in 2004, the magnificent Jack London “Market Building”, a rather iconic building to anchor the Port’s shoreline commercial waterfront in Jack London Square design by The Urban Lab, is finally coming to fruition. The Assembly (newly named) is underway and set to open this spring with three celebrity chefs, according to the Port of Oakland’s press release Nov. 20th.
According to San Francisco Eater, there is a notable lineup of chefs including Reem Assil (Reem’s), Preeti Mistry (Juhu Beach Club), and Matt Horn (Horn BBQ). These are all amazing chefs with delicious gourmet street food faire….like the ones you see on Iron Chef competitions or Michelin restaurants.
Plans for the space include an indoor stage, a second-floor banquet hall and balcony, and outdoor dining areas. The long-term lease with Kinzie Bridge Holdings is led by John McEnery IV. It will be his third and largest market concept, after San Pedro Square Market in San Jose and Abbott Square Market in Santa Cruz.
