Another Reason Oakland Is So Cool

Friday, March 23rd was the second to the last program of the Oakland Symphony 2017/2018 season. Maestro Michael Moore once again stepped out of the box to deliver an extraordinary performance. After a traditional program of The Barber of Seville Overture and Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 in B flat major, D the first half of the show;  Kev Choice’s Soul Restoration Suite, DJ, Michael Blankenship, the beautiful voices of Viveca Hawkins and Jennifer Johns, and the Oakland School For The Arts Vocal Music Department busted out their tunes as violinists, cellist, flutists, and the like joyously joined the party. The sound was infectious, glorious, and artfully blended, mimicking the people and the places of this amazingly diverse city.

We are now attending our 3rd season of The Oakland Symphony and are continuously impressed at Maestro’s generous and approachable perspective to an often stuffy and overly complex genre.  Maestro speaks with brilliant knowledge of the music, but excites you with his passion, and his desire to speak in a simple style that allows any interested listener to follow along.  The last show of the Oakland Symphony season will be May 18th. The 2018/2019 season is now selling.

It’s just one more reason that we are rooted in Oakland…
